Community Birthing Center

Community Birth Center is a free-standing birth center in Lacey, WA (Nisqually/ Squaxin Territory) dedicated to bringing accessible, culturally-matched midwifery care options to our community while expanding and diversifying the midwifery profession through mentorship of birth workers of color, preservation of birth traditions, and delivery of highly competent clinical care.

Community Birth Center will serve the needs of the South Sound regions of Washington State by providing culturally competent, client-centered midwifery care as part of a national movement to improve outcomes among the maternal mortality rates in the United States. We aim to enhance our community by increasing access to the midwifery model of care for families who seek a community-based birth.  A community-based birth is defined as a birth that takes place outside of the hospital setting and attended by a licensed practitioner. Community Birth Center offers a model that results in the expansion of the midwifery consumer base and strengthens the midwifery profession. Therefore clients are able to select their preferred midwife and have access to the birthing center facilities.

We are a community-driven facility that strives to be a changemaker by holding comprehensive and culturally relevant training/workshops and delivering a model that is supportive, inclusive, and promotes diversity. We value the needs of a community birthing space and midwifery education to support our BIPOC community, while also creating a structure that provides opportunities for economic growth and sustenance for Birth Workers of Color
